Scalp issues? Sensitive Skin?
3 Ingredients to absolutely avoid to improve your scalp and skin health.

Could the products you are using to treat your dry, sensitive skin and scalp actually be making it worse?

With so many natural hair and skin products to choose from, picking the right product  for your hair type and skin can feel like a nightmare! Especially if you have dry skin, eczema, or experience frequent allergic reactions.
The Cevanna Naturals Team rolled up their sleeves to find the top ingredients to absolutely avoid if you have sensitive and dry skin or scalp.
GATHERING THE FACTS
Did you know that your skin absorbs up to 64% of the topical products, lotions, shampoo and makeup that you apply to it? In one study, researchers found that 100% of fragrance ingredients are absorbed by the skin!(1) If you have eczema, dry skin, sensitive skin, or dry and flaky scalp, products that you use on a regular basis could actually be making your skin condition worse, depending on the types of chemicals each product includes. Here are a few ingredients to avoid if you have sensitive and dry skin to maintain healthy skin, scalp, and hair for years to come:
SULFATES (Sodium lauryl sulfate or SLS)
Sulfates are used in creams and lotions to mix oils into a creamy texture and in cleansers and solutions as a foaming agent. Researchers found that the skin’s protective barrier can thin after applying cream that contains, making skin more susceptible to irritation by chemicals. This can make eczema worse by causing more reactions, rather than healing the skin. (2,3)
Cevanna Naturals Tip: Avoid products that ingredients such as: Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS), Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES), Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate, Sodium Myreth Sulfate.
ARTIFICIAL COLORS & FRAGRANCES
Fragrances are a common cause of dermatitis (or skin reactions to irritating ingredients). To create one unique scent, hundreds of chemicals may be combined and used – some of which may be harmful to the body. The same is true with artificial dyes and coloring; for instance, it takes up to 25 chemicals to create the synthetic color purple! Certain artificial colors and dyes can cause allergic reactions, put stress on the body’s detoxification system and cause hormonal imbalance. Ingredients to avoid: If you have extremely sensitive skin, look for products that are labeled “fragrance-free,” not just “unscented.” (3)

Cevanna Naturals Tip: Some “unscented” products can still contain a masking fragrance designed to hide unpleasant, chemical odors.
PETROLEUM
Petroleum is made from the residue of petroleum oil after most of it is distilled. Products containing petroleum block moisture from escaping the skin, and clog pores. Petroleum appears to hydrate the skin, when actually it creates a seal over your skin, blocking the action of your skin’s natural fats to act to provide a moisture barrier. Ingredients to avoid: Paraffin wax, mineral oil, toluene, benzene, phenoxyethanol (4,5,6)
Cevanna Naturals Tip: Avoid products that contain ingredients ending in “eth”, “butyl”, “ethyl”, “propyl” and “methyl.”
